| Name of the diesease | Symptoms | Control Measures |
| BASE ROT | The leaves show grey spots with dark margins. The spots turn olive-brown or white. With the advance of disease, tissues dry & leaves become distorted. Fruits show water soaked lesions which turn yellowish and finally dark.
| 1. Destroy the affected plants.
2. Collect suckers from disease free fields.
3. Treat the nursery soil with Brassicol or Vapam and dip suckers in Bordeaux mixture (2:2:50) before planting.
|
| HEART ROT | The disease is characterised in early stages of infection by the loss of turgidity and a slight twisting of the central leaves and in later stages by the withering and discolouration to yellowish pink and brown. Inner whorl of leaves can be readily detached from the stem by a slight pull. Stem may show a brownish-yellow discolouration at the margins between the healthy and diseased tissue. The disease incidence is more in areas with poor drainage.
| Dipping of planting material in Bordeaux mixture (1:1:30) before planting. |
| ANTHRACNOSE |
Infection appears in the form of irregular blotches with minute black fruiting bodies that originate mostly from the apex of the leaves, sometimes, marginal spotting is also seen. It results in withering & drooping of leaves and ultimately the growth of the infected culms and development of fruit is seriously arrested | Spraying of Bavistin or JK Stein or Topsin-M @ 0.1 per cent at 15 days intervals is quite effective. |
| PINEAPPLE WILT VIRUS | Bronzing, bright pink colouration and downward curling of leaves are characteristic symptoms of this disease. | 1. Heat therpy of infected material at 500C for 3 hours has been found useful.
2. Soil application of Thimmet -10G has been found effective in controlling the mealybugs.
3. Higher levels of N,P and K fertilisers reduce the disease.
4. Only healthy planting material should be used.
