| POWDERY MILDEW
Click on Image for larger photo. | White powdery growth appears on the leaves, tender stems, inflorescences and young fruits during February to June, fruits shed due to disease. Is favoured by a sultry weather.
| 1. Dust twice with sulphur powder; once when the flowers are just opened and second after 15 days.
2. Sulfex (0.2%) or Wettasul (0.2%) or Thiovit or Bavistin (0.1%) or Calixin (0.1%) at fortnightly interval are effective.
|
| MANGO MALFORMATION | Abnormal development of inflorescence is known as floral malformation. Flowers appear in clusters. Witches broom like growth of shoot is known as bunchy top or vegetative malformation. These infected branches do not bear fruits.
| 1. Remove diseased parts.
2. Spray insecticides.
3. Spray Captan (0.2%) or Benlate (0.1%).
4.Spray napthelene acetic acid (NAA) 200 ppm during first week of October followed by deblossoming spray in January-February. |
|
| ANTHRACNOSE |
Brown spots appear on the leaves and inflorescences. Twigs show die- back symptoms. Flowers shed when inflorescence is infected. Black spots appear on fruits. Older infected fruits rot and decay.
High humidity, frequent rains and temperature range of 24-30 0C at the time of flowering and fruit formation are favourable for disease development.
| 1. Spray Topsin-M (Methyl thiophenate) (0.1%) or Bavistin (0.1%) before flowers open and again during fruit formation.
2. Storage : Dip fruits in Benlate (500 ppm) or TBZ (1000 ppm) or Bavistin (500 ppm) for control |
| SOOTY MOULD | Dark coloured fungus (almost black) spread and cover the leaf area. The fungus feeds and sustains on secretions of insects.
| Spray insecticides to control the insects followed by Bordeaux mixture spray.
|
| PINK DISEASE | Fungus grows on the surface of the plants and causes die-back on the upper portions. Later the infected bark turns pink in colour. | Remove disease parts and spray with Bordeaux mixture.
|
| LEAF BLIGHT | Fungus causes spots on the leaves. It is a weak parasite. | Dithane Z-78 or Methyl thiophenate or Benlate or Bavistin (0.1%) control the disease.
|
| ROOT ROT | Whitish strands of the fungal growth spread along the surface of the bark. These strands later turn dark. Infection spreads from the lateral roots into the crown and then into the main trunk. | Remove affected roots and apply Bordeaux paste. |
| BACTERIAL CANKER
Click on Image for larger photo. | Small water soaked lesions appear at any part of the leaf blade. They increase in size, turn brown to black and surrounded by yellowish halo. Several lesions may coalesce to form large necrotic patches which are often rough and raised. On fruits, water soaked lesions develop which also turn dark brown to black. Infected fruits may show cracks in the skin and badly affected ones drop prematurely. Cankereous lesions are also found on petioles and branches. | 1. Orchard should be inspected regularly and kept free from disease by pruning.
2. Shoots selected for grafting should be free from infection.
3. Diseased plants parts should be collected and brunt.
4. Spraying with Bavistin (0.1%) or Copper Oxychloride (0.3%) or Agrimycin (0.01%) at monthly intervals.
